Look at all that food!! Within 20 minutes it'll all be gone. There's chipa (donut-like corn-bread), botifaro (something to do with cow intestines), chipa so'o (meat-filled chipa), sopa Paraguaya (corn bread with onions) and so much more!!
Here the kids are climbing the yvyra rasy'i, which means the difficult tree. It's a huge skinny tree oiled up with cow fat. The kids climb up to get to the prizes at the top. As you can see, the expert kids have several strategies: they take off their shirt and use it to get rid of the lard, they take bands of rubber and tie it around their feet so they get a better grip, and - my favorite - they work in teams, standing one on top of the other's hands to help each other.

To make money, the schools sell food and also have games. This is the pozo of suerte, the well of luck, where you pay 1mil and get to reach in and grab a number, which corresponds to one of the cheap prizes in the back, like a comb or a piece of gum.
This San Juan also featured everyone's favorite local tradition, music videos!
