making materials with parents

Two guapa pre-escolar and jardin teachers in Tacuati called a meeting for all their students’s parents to help make materials for this year. We spent an entire afternoon last week with close to 40 parents (out of 80 total) making various didactic materials. It was a great way to not only arm the classrooms with necessary didactics but also to offer parents an opportunity to get involved in their kids’ education.

Materials we made included:

1. Letter bingo
2. Number bingo
3. Word bingo (with little pictures)
4. Recycled toilet-paper roll binoculars (a personal favorite of mine, as I had dozens of stupid toilet paper rolls at home)
5. Recycled cardboard masks for students to paint
6. Recycled matchboxes with student initials on the outside and drawings of the student on the inside
7. Recycled puppets of Mama and Papa
8. Musical instruments made from soda bottles
9. Cuentos caseros traced on white paper
10. large letters with holes in them for sewing with string
11. number dominoes
