attempt to go to the beach

Betty's family invited me to go with them on a big excursion to Laguna Blanca, rumored to be a gorgeous lake where the water is crystal clear. About 20 of us hopped into several trucks, beer, asado preparations, bathing suits and all and set out for the several hour drive to the lake.
On the way we passed this amazing field of sunflowers. But when we got to the beach the gates were locked, it was already full. Then we drove another couple hours to get to another lake. But when we got there we saw that there were cows everywhere so the water wasn't fit for swimming. So we drove another couple hours to go to another lake. But around noon we saw these clouds....
And eventually we got rained on. So after six hours in the back of the truck, we decided just to go back to Tacuati and have our asado there.
After drying off in the now-abundant sun, we settled into the traditional terere circle of women, while the guys drank beer and tended to the asado. After a while we got to drink beer too!
The asado was delicious, and the sunset gorgeous. Plans for Laguna Blanca were set for another weekend, hopefully that one will involve more actual swimming at the lake and less driving around looking for it.

But I had a fabulous day, one of my best in Paraguay perhaps. I was part of a family, part of a ridiculous laughing group out just to have a good time. We laughed together, got sunburnt together, got rained on together, enjoyed beers and asado together. It just doesn´t get much better than that!
